Counselling and psychotherapy offer you a safe and confidential space to try to make sense of your issues or any part of your life that you may be grappling with.
Short-term counselling may focus on a specific issue and help you to look at different perspectives, and gain skills and strategies for coping. Typically, short-term counselling lasts between six and twelve sessions.
Longer-term psychotherapy focuses on deeper issues, helping you to better understand yourself, the choices you make and how you would like to live. You may wish to explore feelings that you have and the way your life has been until now. It can also help with things such as past traumas or mental health conditions.
The approach we would take in our work is up to you. So is the length of therapy, and that is something we would discuss when we first meet and throughout our work together.
It can be quite daunting to seek out a therapist and think of confiding to this stranger about your life, thoughts and feelings. It is important to find the person that you feel comfortable with and able to connect to. I am happy to chat on the phone with you, or via email, and arrange an initial assessment session, for you to get a sense of me and see whether you feel that this might be right for you.
I also offer Single Session Therapy. This is helpful when you have something that you feel stuck with (it could be emotionally or behaviourally) and you don’t think that you need weekly therapy. You can always choose to continue with weekly therapy afterwards.
